Just as we're getting the general tone of posts to a level just below bodily mayhem, we get an entire new bunch of disagreeable actors posting replies to helpful & informative posts. I don't get it - if you agree, say so without gushing & if you disagree or have an alternative suggestion say so without being openly aggressive or passively aggressive in your response. I've been a Usenet regular since the late 80's & I've seen the civility of postings decline on a steady basis for the whole time. We used to be self-policing when moderated groups were more common, but as the number of people using the 'net has grown moderators were overwhelmed. Now we have total anarchy in almost all newsgroups, with self appointed vigilantes trying to ride herd on others responsible for stupid posts (I'll admit to sometimes throwing in my lot with both sides). But early on the geniuses who wrote mostly free newsreaders adopted the inclusion of 'kill files' & 'filters' in the software they out out. To which I've said, 'Thank God", many, many times. It's all too easy to be sucked into silly arguments with people over topics that are completely unworthy of one's time & effort. Why waste time getting upset over what some idiot felt the need to post; instead go get another cup of coffee & search the web for something worthwhile. Find out what's up with Brad & Angelina, or find out what outrage Paris has committed on film. Anything's better than getting involved in a flame war in this newsgroup, or any other, with someone whose day is not complete until they drag someone down to their level. -- Robert (duck & cover) Harmon http://tinyurl.com/pou2y http://tinyurl.com/fkd6r

Son, I wish you'd embrace the intent of my message rather than creating your own interpretation! I've admitted that as often as not I've been on the wrong end of the pointed stick of flame wars. They weren't pretty & they never were worth the effort. I was really hoping to appeal to the better angels in each of us and keep the volume down a bit. Won't you join me in this effort? Ignoring a thread is appropriate. Putting a poster in your "Kill File" ensures you'll miss some sparkling gems... ... like KF's hilarious Feb posts about blowing chaff all over himself. Still my vote for funniest post of 2006
