OK...enuf is enuf. I've had way too many limoncello's over ice t'nite and being over 50% intoxinated have to get this off my chest. I've been lurking for way 2 long, and have to thank everyone for everything. Where to start? All your fault. That's right....all of you. Even you, Dave (jest kiddin' bro...almost went for the PID'd Sylvia which was my second choice...rock on, dude). B'cause of all of your advising, noshing, kibbitzing, bitching, lurking, complaining, exhorting, reviewing, explaining, etc, etc, etc... I did it. Pulled the trigger now it's done. After all, the wife can only kill me once, and after she kills me she can't eat me, it's against the law. Am now the proud owner of an Expobar Brewtus II purchased from the fine folks at WLL whom I'll never, ever have anything bad to say about. After days of waiting patiently while gnawing fingernails and gleaning hourly (and minutely) shipping updates from FedEx, Brewtus arrived safe and sound on my doorstep fully tweaked and ready to go. Like a teenager with a Learners Permit given the keys to a Ferrari, I plugged it in and after a shorter warmup time than expected, and after a few blank cleaning shots just in case (after all, DID say I was lurking and paying attention and it's still all your fault?) I pulled my first real shot from anything other than a steam toy. Oh...my...God... I immediately fulfilled the promise earlier made to my XYL to make her a mint mocha. She now loves her husband more than ever. Mission accomplished, promise fulfilled. Tomorrow I'm off to have the interior of my portafilter measured for a Reg Barber tamper. Life is good. Did I mention it's all your fault? What I have learned from this group is that everything I have learned up to now is negotioable. For ever right way to do things, there is a different and equally correct way. The best analogy I've heard yet, is that to the uninitiated, a black belt in karate is the ultimate goal. But within the martial arts discipline, a black belt is only a sign that one has learned enough to have the skills to begin to learn. Perhaps in the distant future I'll earn a black belt in coffee. Until then, back to some more limoncello over ice. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.... But first I'll finish my cappachino. Thank You Everybody for Everything (all your fault), ~Robt~ ,

Naw...not yet, anyway. But rode it pretty hard nevertheless. When wife said OK to the Brewster I wonder who this imposter was, and what did she do with my wife? Then I figured, hey...works for me. ~R~ --- At 26.4 kbps no one can hear you scream. > >ya...prolly a capital offense in those states with a female majority > >population. Congratulations - hope your Brewtus does as well by you as mine does by me. You probably know there is a Brewtus group at: http://groups.google.com/group/brewtus?lnk=li&hl=en Also lots of good information at coffeegeek.com. Karl

Howdy Robster, Hey, don't blame those guys just yet. Wait at least until you've got two espresso machines, a grinder, a drip pot, a vac pot, various moka pots, on the counter top, and several machines in the garage that you bought to experiment on. Actually you shouldn't blame the good folk here for your addiction (yep, it goes way beyond hobby) any more than 12 steppers blame the corner liquor store for theirs. Now if they stood on the corner offering samples that would be something else. I sympathize with you (you do know where to find sympathy, right?), there was a time when in my innocence I thought Starbucks made good coffee. Now, after several thousands of my ill gotten dollars I know better and occasionally I get to show off my toys for my friends who aren't as far into the coffee thing as I am. It's rewarding to see the little light go on & the wheels start to spin because I know that I've made a contribution to society in general & the economy specifically by showing some poor soul the path to true enlightenment. If you want something to sip while enjoying espresso I suggest an old(ish) single malt whiskey like Laphroaig . With it's peaty taste and a good shot of espresso your mouth will think it's died & made it to Heaven after all. Enjoy! -- Robert (Believe me ocifer, it's their fault I fell off the sidewalk...) Bypassed all that..only had one shot to convince the wife so had to go for all the way the first and last time. Gonna be cremated and have my ashes stuffed into the casing and get buried in it. > How does her loving her husband more do you any good? And what's he say > about you making coffee for his wife? When he came in, he yelled, "What's the meaning of this!? Who is this guy??" She said, "A fair enough question," rolled over and asked, "so what's your name?" > Just out of curiousity, what grinder did you get for the Brewtus? Believe it or not, I was given a Starbucks Barista burr grinder by my best friend who's daughter wears the Black Apron. Seems he prefers a blade grinder for his...drip...grind...coffee...maker. (shiver...) After digging around I discovered it's actually a branded Solis 166 - and a really good quality burr ginder at that - and also discovered how to take it apart and adjust it so it will grind properly. Guess what I did the very next day? Am pretty happy with it so far, but that's probably just b'cause I haven't worked a Rocky yet. BTW...after reading about how to use air-driven popcorn makers to roast beans, I visited the local Goodwill hoping to find one cheap. Instead, I found a Melitta Coffee Roaster circa 1981 brand new in the box. Life sucks, don't it? Even though from what I read it's supposed to be underpowered, I'm looking forward to firing up a batch just to see what comes of it. My wife puts up with me. > Actually you shouldn't blame the good folk here for your > addiction (yep, it goes way beyond hobby) any more than 12 steppers blame > the corner liquor store for theirs. This whole hobby...no, you're right...addiction, kinda reminds me of a street corner drug dealer, "Ya...here ya go pal, have a hit of Kona. Go ahead, try it...the first one's free!" I'm gonna have to keep my eye out for Laphroaig, sounds quite tasty. Try the lemonchello though, or make your own with lemon rinds, water, sugar and of course, some Stoly. Recipe is freely available and well worth the 4 (to 40!) days of preparation. And it's still all your (and everybody else's) fault. ~Robt~ ("I'm not as think as you drunk I am.")
