I've a friend who does custom paint for bikers. He saw that I had several old-style (steam valve knob in front) Coffees & asked for one so he could try out some ideas he has about custom paint jobs for espresso machines. He wants to trick out an otherwise stock machine & see if there's any interest on eBay. BTW, he wants to do a G' Dead skeleton or American Beauty rip off for the paint job. I won't sell this on eBay because I believe in preserving intellectual property rights, but if I can get him to change his mind do you think there might be a market for custom painted espresso machines. Forget that we're doing this on an old Coffee - future jobs will probably be done on customer machines. We're hoping others are getting tired of their boring S/S pigs just sitting there, not adding one damned thing to the aesthetics of a room! -- Robert (air guitar maestro for Uncle John's Band) Harmon http://tinyurl.com/pou2y http://tinyurl.com/fkd6r

Before I got my new Elektra, I googled on "clear coat chrome," on the fair certainty I'd need to get dings out of mine occasionally, and discovered the wonderful world of bike nuts. Needless to say, any medium sized town will have a place that will plate, powder coat, put chrome pipes and fins, or otherwise refinish or customize espresso machines. Of course, this never stopped anyone from doing the same on ebay. My guess would be that doing commercial machines for cafes might be a more lucrative way to go; especially if your friend took a gander at historic machines, e.g. http://www.espressomadeinitaly.com/indexSito.htm and based some eyepopping customizations on them.
