Suggestions? I'm going to be out there later this month on buisness. :) Last time I bumbled around and never found anything great. Acceptable, but not great. -- DougW

D. Ross did pass the time by typing: >> I'm going to be out there later this month on buisness. :) > > 'Great' will be tough; the drink of choice in Pisa seems to be caffe > macchiato, which says something. That was my experience. Best espresso I had was at the Italian Mensa on Aviano AFB. Even Ghedi had great coffee. Seems as you go further south the gelato and espresso gets worse. :/ > I always get well-prepared drinks at "Bar Moderno" (near Piazza dei > Cavalieri), and at the Bar Odeon (not far from the court building), but they > use pretty middling beans (eg, Arcaffe at Moderno). Thanks for the information. -- DougW

The posh pastry bar (Salzaa, on Borgo Stretto) has pretty good coffee (and >> great gelato, but not as good as La Bottega del Gelato on Via Cavalca) > >Mmmmm.. gelato. :) I will have to try that out. > >Thanks for the information. David knows Pisa:)speaking of which that Leaning Tower is something to see. Beautiful. Just back from three weeks in Europe and we found taking our own coffee was the only way to get good coffee.Sorry. It seems to my admittedly underdeveloped palate that Robusta is what is prevalent. Just my $.02 or euro bits or pence. The gelato is not to be missed indeed. Like ice cream but it must be the forerunner of ice cream- just seemingly- solid cream and wonderful flavor. No air nothing added-- but cream and flavoring. Yummy about 3Euros though. And also not to be missed --the various morning pastry treats. Their good smell wafts through Paris in the very early morning while the street cleaners are busy hosing down the cobblestones. Wowser they are the flakiest tastiest bites ever eaten. We were in Firenze when the Italians made the semifinal or the play off, and in Paris for the same, but we were in London for the final. I have never seen so much passion in my life. I am glad that Italy won despite their own issues:). That Zidane action took my breath away the first time I saw it, but I think American footballers would probably do the same. I did not like that he got the "Player of the Game" etc. but then again.... not up to me. The best part of being in Europe for the World Cup, we could see it live at a reasonable hour w/o any commercials. It was exciting for sure and we will not forget it either. aloha, Cea

I did not like that he got the "Player of > the Game" etc. but then again.... not up to me. Most of the votes were in, up till that point few could have argued that he deserved it. It was an excellent final, but a pity that it had to go to penalties. The last captain of the NZ All Blacks Tana Umaga retired on a high note at the end of the 2005 season. Unfortunately due to an incident in a Christchurch bar after the Super 14 final earlier this year, he may not be remembered for the reasons he might have hoped. One of his Hurricane team mates got a bit out of hand after tripping on another patron's foot. Tana knocked some sense into his team mate with a borrowed hand bag, broke the owner's cell phone. He bought the lady a new cellphone. The handbag complete with broken cellphone fetched $19200 on Trademe. By the way the handbag did the trick, settled his team mate nicely. True story. The Auzzies even did a TV Ad with the All Blacks doing the Haka with digitally added hand bags. > > The best part of being in Europe for the World Cup, we could see it > live at a reasonable hour w/o any commercials. A couple of the guys from my soccer club went to Europe for the WC, I don't think they're back yet. Rob "still playing the beautiful game" vL NZ
