Subject: modify a pod to work with ground
|
I was looking at espresso machines last night and I noticed one that was about half the price I expected it to be (300=E2=82=AC instead of 600). The catch is that it takes pods only. I just sunk about 100=E2=82=AC in a nice grinder, so I don't want to switch to pods. Also, they've got drawbacks that I'm sure you're all familiar with. My question is whether a pod machine can be modified to take real grounds. I looked at your FAQ at coffeeopolis and it didn't mention this. Is there an article someplace that details how this might be done? Unfortunately, I didn't write down the name of the device or the manufacturer, but the machine was orange. As far as I know, there are only three companies that make orange machines and the one I saw was neither Ascaso nor Kitchenaid. There is another model of the machine that takes ground coffee, but it costs twice as much and is made out of aluminum, whereas the cheaper one is plastic. So: Can this be done? Is it worth doing? Does anybody have recommendations for an espresso machine that is orange, takes up minimal counter space, has a milk steamer, uses ground beans, and has a round gauge for either temperature or pressure?
