Subject: semi regulardescaling reminder

Just a reminder that citric acid is just what the Dr. ordered for descaling
your espresso machine (You DO descale regularly, right?). I buy mine from
The Great American Spice Co: http://tinyurl.com/n8h5q, where the purity is
guaranteed by their FDA certification (Who knows what's in that stuff you've
been buying on the internet?).
I hate to say this, but judging from the machines I've repaired for friends
& the machines I buy to sell on eBay, most of you guys (and gals) aren't
doing much to maintain your expensive toy! To paraphrase the ol' Brylcreem
ad, "A little flush will do ya."

I use the "Recurrence" feature on my Outlook Calendar as my reminder
(for detergent backflushes, too).

Ah yes, backflush. Did mine yesterday. Regular and as usual. Once
completed, on a whim, I added a tad (1/4 tsp) of Cafiza, flushed and
let sit. Got a bunch of crud into the blank. Kept on until "as usual
clear." Another whim and 1/4 tsp. Same thing. New crud. Spent about
an hour and 2-3 more rounds of detergent until I got no more crud.
Also, my leaky pf lever (Isomac Tea) got cured. Sort of makes me
rethink my cleaning protocol.

Michael and Angelo over at Espresso Parts Source have been encouraging
me for some time to try Puly Caf (they're the U.S. distributor). It's
the best selling European brand, and it's "sudsier" (sounds like a
50's Tide commercial). So, I got some on my last visit. Yup. Lots of
suds. Lots of crud came out.
But, I think I'd have to take my machine apart and take "before and
after" pictures with Puly Caf and competing brands to confirm whether
it really does a better job (sounds like a Ken Fox project!).

I've only ever used Puly Caf and yes, lots of suds. It's nice to see
brown suds as it does it's work. I also use the Puly milk stuff.

the way he touts it here so often. there are far superior Commercial
compounds, so cheap that the cost is negligible.
It is the time spent, and the results -- NOT the pennies for cleaner
that count.
BTW, I'm not seeing a lot of turnover on those machines you inspect --
for ebay, harmon.

I'm confused. I run cafiza regularly (every week) in a backflush to
keep the brew group clean, but I don't think my machine's boiler has
ever been descaled. Is there a link to instructions somewhere, and
directions on what cleaner to use (citric acid, or something else?)
I want to descale my machine, but not sure how.
