Hello, I've owned a Gaggia Carezza for the last 3 years. The machine works wonderfully but lately I'm seeing some ugly and very persistent stains in the brass portafilter after drawing shots. They're dark, rust colored stains and they always appear in the same sections of the portafilter. I always clean the pf as soon as the shot is drawn, never letting the old coffee sit in the basket for any length of time. The stains get lighter after much scrubbing with lemon juice, vinegar and Ajax scouring powder but you can always see a faint outline and sure enough the next time I use the machine they return in all their former splendor! It's like they're etched in the brass! Please, help!

er....well I'm no metallurgist but that sounds a bit implausible; looks to me like the coffee stain has somehow penetrated the surface in some places near the bottom near the area where the radial edges of the filter basket are closest to the portafilter. I'm just looking for a soaking solution of some kind to get it off and tips so that it doesn't happen again. So may be not so implausible? Hudson
