Subject: why am i finding grinds in my coffee?

in the past week i've been finding coffee grinds in my espresso, it's
the first time i've seen this and i'm not sure how to fix the problem...

Without knowing your experience or how long the grinder has been in
use, here are some factors that could lead to fines in the cup with
espresso:
1) old basket that is worn or has a crack somwhere
2) worn out, dull or damaged burrs
3) worn out grinder that is allowing misalignment of burrs
4) a batch of coffee that is creating more dust than you are
accustomed to (darker roasted maybe?).
5) Tamping on a mat with coffee grounds on it that get transferred to
the spouts.
6) You are getting more sensitive to such things are are noticing it
more now.
7) You have a spouse with a sense of humor that is tired of your
bragging about how good you coffee is? ;-)
