How much side play is too much in Mazzer, Rossi, etc., commercial grinders? I'm getting ~.004", and that seems a *bit* tight to me. -- Robert Harmon -- http://www.tinyurl.com/mb4uj - My coffee pages. http://www.tinyurl.com/2tnv87 - My 'Guidelines For Newbies' page. http://www.tinyurl.com/2cr3e2 - I have things for sale here.

The way you ask the question, I am not sure. -- Roger Shoaf About the time I had mastered getting the toothpaste back in the tube, then they come up with this striped stuff.

Thinking about it ..and being a little more serious ..wonder if Rob's measurement of 0.004" might be around the size of a grain of espresso ground coffee anyway? It may explain the apparent 'tight fit' of the Mazzer, Rosi's and other top-quality grinders. Too much 'slop' in any grinder and the grains may then become multi-sized, with problems associated with the lack of micro-water pathways between the individual grains thus compromising infusion - and with an increase in unwanted 'dust' etc, excessive 'channeling', etc... It may be that Mazzer have their machine correctly set - even if it appears a slightly tight 'fit'...? Could be.. :)) ..but don't worry, Robert... Tightness of fit is a sign of youthful vigour. Perhaps things tend to slacken off, (or even shrivel a little), as they get older. ;)) Bill ZFC -- Adoption InterLink UK with -=- http://www.billsimpson.com/ Domain Host Orpheus Internet -=- http://www.orpheusinternet.co.uk/
