Has it ever been successfully done to modify the Rancilio Rocky to make

The old "toothpick trick," courtesy of Larry Jacobsen:

"Just take a toothpick and wind scotch tape around it till it is thick
enough to wedge in the space between the top of the Rocky and bottom
of the hopper, and it will hold position in between detented settings.
Works like a charm... "
