Subject: tamper size for Gaggia Evolution
I'm going to buy a Reg Barber tamper as a present for some friends who
have a Gaggia Evolution espresso machine. The machine is reported to
have a 58 mm filter basket. Can anyone tell me if a 58 mm tamper will
work in this filter (by this I mean can you tamp to the required depth
without binding on the sides of the filter)?

Thanks,
John

I just tested it... and it works fine. I used a 58mm solid S/Steel tamper,
convex face, single shot basket, so it should be fine in a double too.

Why not give a gift certificate, then the lucky recipient can get the
handle wood, curve and diameter that takes their fancy.

Gaggia Evolution *is* a 58mm basket. I used to have one, my 58mm
tamper actually had a little bit of room side to side.
